Excellent analysis, it perfectly captures Europe’s paralysis between defeat and denial. What’s remarkable is how this obsession with Russia has metastasized into an identity crisis for the EU itself. In trying to “stand firm” against Moscow, European leaders are quietly dismantling the very foundations of their own union. Their actions continue to undermine energy security, industrial competitiveness and social cohesion.

By curtailing Russian energy and flirting with the reckless idea of seizing Russian assets, the European elite are not merely waging a geopolitical campaign against Russia but also an economic war against their own working class. Skyrocketing energy costs, deindustrialization and inflation have hollowed out the livelihoods of ordinary Europeans, all in service of an ideological crusade that brings no security and no peace.

The pursuit of moral absolutism over pragmatic statecraft has turned Brussels into a theater of self-sabotage where loyalty to Washington now trumps loyalty to one’s own citizens. The tragedy is not just Ukraine’s devastation, but Europe’s unraveling from within.

V clearly laid out explanation, thanks. Much needed - the impact of Ukraine joining on the EU is consistently played down in the MSM. Also not joining, leading to the upheaval in Ukraine you describe.
