Provoked is indeed well worth reading. It astonishes me how much nonsense is written and broadcast about the Ukraine conflict. As well as "unprovoked", the other nonsense term used is "Russia's total invasion". If that were the case, Ukraine's Western border would be patrolled by Russian soldiers today.
Still, by basically persuing their strategy as described by Jacques Baud, the Russians have shown NATO to leave much to be desired as a military pact.
Just bought Provoked and Bauds 2 books on the conflict. Been saying for years to my friends and relatives that nothing is as it appears or they hear through the major news media. My sister in law in the UK believes only the BBC tell the truth.......
Slavs have long memories. A Serbian friend told me in the 1990s: "Some talk about the Battle of Kosovo [1389] as if it was last month."
And the East-West conflict in (the) Ukraine can be traced back further than 2022, 2014 and 1991 - not only to 1654 but to the contest between Lithuania and Moscow after Mongol power established after the sack of Kiev in 1240 waned in the fourteenth century.
It's best understood as a longue durée tripolar Slavic contest between East, West and South.
Donald John Trump is the worst person on the planet for the job of President of the United States.
In my “course” — a dossier on how we as a species should be conducting ourselves in order to survive not just the next few years, but the next few decades — I use three analogies to make my case: a road trip, a medical diagnosis, and a sports contest. I won’t unpack all three here, but the conclusion they point to is the same: out of all 8 billion people on this planet, Donald Trump is the worst possible fit for this job. Not merely unqualified — actively dangerous.
What makes this moment especially perilous isn’t just who he is, but where he is in his arc. We are entering a period in which a malignant narcissist is beginning to lose his grip on power. History suggests that’s when such figures become most volatile, not least. Mark my words: this will be an extremely dangerous stretch.
Not sure he is the "worst on the planet" but I fully understand what you mean.
Your last para is paramount. Trump is a man who doesn't take no for an answer or accept a loss. I had hoped he would have learned something from his 1st stint that would somehow improve his performance, but I was totally wrong. He returned with a vengeance and the desire to wreak havoc on his "enemies" both foreign and domestic.
What really amazes me is 1. How the media aren't hammering him at every turn for his rank stupidity. 2. The lack of honest politicians who simply wont put the country and the people first and choose instead to hunker down and save their skins from be primaries out of office. 3. The number of people out there who believe that the Democrats will be capable of improving on anything. They 50% of the reason the USA has declined in stature since the Clinton Days.
We don't really live in a democracy...... We actually live in a "Matrix"!
The CIA: 70 years in Ukraine. A short video (9 min) The CIA: 70 years in #Ukraine by Doug Valentine is a hard-hitting account that answers these questions. Recommended viewing for all who seek to understand the Ukrainian conflict.
The West, deliberately and with malice-a-forethought, set up and provoked the war in Ukraine over the course of decades, for a variety or reasons, which included both aligned and competing vested interests, national and international.
It is amazing to me that supposedly erudite, accomplished politicians and diplomatic representatives would not have enough foresight to expect the result of their tragic ignorance on the matter. This article is clear about the provocations that ended up with the disassembling of Ukraine!
Bought the book.
I have it too. (And "Fool's Errand" and "Enough Already"!)

It is very revealing the way that Baud has been treated by the EU.
Brexit did the UK no favours, but those who hanker after rejoining it under the current dispensation are just plain delusional.

💯 Well said.
