Running out of money to fight in Ukraine
Why Europe needs to get behind negotiations to end the war.
Last week I caught up with my good friend Kelley Vlahos, Editorial Director at Responsible Statecraft and a Senior Advisor to the Quincy Institute in DC, and also Eldar Mamedov who, like me, is a regular contributor to RS.
We spoke, among other things, about the increasing inability of Europe to bankroll the war in Ukraine, as the US pulls away its support; how the UK is able to pump £4.5bn per year into Ukraine at a time when its public finances are under immense strain; why Trump is making it harder for European leaders to pivot towards peace; but how, ultimately, negotiations are the only way out of the war.
I hope you find it interesting.
Great interview. Brits are 100% in the fog. Political parties consensus is Ukraine good, Russia bad. Eventually we will wake up to the propaganda we have been subject to. I believe all this funding to keep war going is a subterfuge to keep the EU political project going, a project that Starmer fully adheres to. Stealing taxpayers money on the pretext there is an enemy to keep at bay. In Europe, the scam has been going on for so long, some have finally noticed. UK will follow eventually and realise how bamboozled we have all been.
