Didn't know you were a poet Ian ! This is excellent, and exactly the comparison we need: unlimited funding for an unwinnable war in Ukraine on one hand, cuts in welfare and domestic spending on the other.
War makes "the Few" Rich. Wars are financed and fought on the backs of the poor and middle class. Always have been and this always will be so. The "rich and powerful" may claim to fight, but they are rarely ever in real danger. There is always an exception, but as in WWI, millions of poor bastards got blown to bits while the sons of the aristocracy typically stood back, blew the whistles and watched as tens of thousands "went over the top" to their deaths. After the war, these "heroes" went into politics and touted their Bravery and accomplishments in battle. Until the children of the rich and powerful are the ones doing all of the dying, this will never change and never stop.
That's the poetry I relate to and love - thanks Ian.
And, while the Geens, here, in Oz, fight the fossil fuels industry over emissions, we need a radical, working class, movement against war. Because it's our lives that are wasted - and the emissions are enormous - the manufacture of weapons, the emissions from bombing, movement of warplanes and warships, the destruction of buildings, then the rebuilding - all emissions. And, if there's WWIII, and nuclear war - well, then - the fight over emissions, bio diversity and so much else will be over. And, what does the US mount proxy wars for? - oil? gas?
That seems about right. Thanks for your work
Thank you

Thank you so much you make me less ashamed about my ancestors
