If Russia was being seriously affected by an inability to receive payment in $US for its agricultural exports, it would not be difficult for Rosselkhozbank to reconnect to SWIFT indirectly via a correspondent relationship with a large US bank, if the political will to facilitate this were present within the Trump administration.
SWIFT reconnection is I think more a political gesture than a matter of addressing a serious impediment to trade.
I don't think Trump is the answer. He's just wanting out of the war over Ukraine so that he can launch a war over Taiwan and concentrate on Iran.
As I see it, Trump's focus on ending the Russia/Ukraine war is actually an insult to Russia. He's just saying Russia is still a threat but it isn't a threat the U.S. can't handle later. He just wants to take it off the field of play for now.
Trump is a man who swings from one position to another in the blink of an eye. He'll say the war never should've started and that it never would've happened if he'd been president and then he'll remind people that he gave Ukraine lethal javelin missles and stopped Germany from opening up Nordstream 2 the next.
He's actually taking credit for things that never existed because the war did start and he was president but never lifted a finger to end it. And then he's congratulating himself for helping to kill Russians.
Trump is a mentally disturbing individual who's every bit as dangerous as dementia, Joe Biden.
Russia is going to get screwed if Putin and his team place any trust in Trump. The proposed Minerals Deal makes that clear. That deal is the original IMF deal on steroids.
Russophobia will never be excised from the West. Therefore Putin must take Odessa and go as far West into Ukraine as he can.
This is a one shot deal. He must put Russia in the most favorable position possible now.
