"The foreign Minister of Latvia, Baiba Braže: [...] those trips would not be in line with the EU values."

Celebrating the defeat of Nazi Germany is not in line with EU values?

Seriously?

Is this how low the [****ing] EU has sunk? (apologies for my appalling language)

I wonder if I'm allowed to celebrate it, marching around my own property, or will I be arrested?

So my forefathers, in the British navy, they are what then? An inconvenient embarrassment? Should I chuck their medals in the bin? Hide their photos? Stick up a picture of Moustache Man?

There's that whole "Forest Brothers" issue that complicates things for Latvia.

How on earth have the Big Dogs of the EU, Spain, France, Italy and Germany (with a combined population of 260 million) allowing the tiny Baltic mice to be running the show on EU foreign policy? The Baltics have a combined population of less than six million and have a pre-set anti-Russian position, they should not have anywhere near this level of influence in the EU, it is an absolute joke and will end very badly for the EU.

I wish I knew the answer. And I like Estonia and Latvia greatly having visited both. But still. Their influence is beyond outsized.

What makes the situation even worse is that whilst criticizing the Russians for their actions in Ukraine, all three of the Baltic states treat their own ethnic Russian populations abominably. Can you imagine if a new united Irish government in Dublin banned 'British' loyalists from voting, holding Irish passports or speaking English? There would be outrage, but this is exactly what is going on in the Baltics and nobody in the EU cares because it is only Russians being targeted. Absolute hypocrisy.

Anything with Kallas in it stinks. From privileged nomenklatura upbringing thanks to her father fast tracked promotions as an obedient apparatchik and a family history where her grandfather was an active participant in fascist militias during WW2 fighting against Russia on the side of Germany. I know, one shouldn't be blamed for your family despicable choices. Unfortunately when fascism and nazism are involved, dynasty and legacy matter. Kallas is simply the product of such ideology.

Serbia are quite lucky to have escaped the clutches of the EU. They might have got a few motorways built had they joined, Serbians would have been paying expensive tolls for ever though, but other than that what are the benefits of EU membership? BRICS is the obvious group for them to join and the best of luck to them should they choose this option over EUnazis.

Those motorways could literally be roads to serfdom, Eoin. And I agree. The EU might be a busted flush as a purely economic proposition now, and the political baggage and risk might be too heavy.

The EU continues to accelerate its own collapse. I know you don’t wish for that Ian, but that is what they are doing.

I washed my hands of the EU when they sneered and mocked the Cameron/Ruetter demands for reform. That was the last straw.

I certainly don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. That said, the EU is now at the point that it needs still deeper institutional reforms to those advanced by the UK and others when we were still members

Oh no, Ursula and Kallas for another 4+ years. You ruined my day. They will certainly get Europe into a full blown war if they stay that long, and it will come though the Balkans and the Baltics (history repeats itself). It is all part of the programmed collapse so that they can build back better with a small part of the surviving and enslaved population under one world government. I used to think that was far fetched. Not any more.

Serbia should just walkaway from the E.U. The E.U. is exceeding its mandate and has itself become a tool of U.S. Neocons.

War is the only thing these people love. If there wasn't a war they'd find an excuse to start one somewhere.
